February… Time For Love, and a Giveaway!

Thanks to all those who congratulated me on my 5th Publishaversary last week! If you haven’t read my post on How Becoming a Writer Helped Me Become Myself, you can do so here.

To celebrate my 5th anniversary of being published, I’m having some giveaways this month… congrats to Karen who was the lucky winner of last week’s giveaway; a signed copy of THE SECRET LETTERS PROJECT plus a beautiful journal!

Keep reading to see how you could win this week’s prize pack…

February is a time for love, and with Valentine’s Day almost here, it’s the perfect time to get those warm fuzzy feelings happening inside with a heartwarming romantic read. FEBRUARY OR FOREVER is one of my most popular bestselling stories, and explores an exciting ‘what if?’ question: “What if your favourite celebrity fell in love with YOU?” I’m sure our teenage selves wondered that at some stage! And this story shows how Chrissie, a single mother and yoga teacher who has just moved to Tarrin’s Bay, deals with that very scenario when she’s given the job of private yoga instructor to Drew Williams, her favourite singer-songwriter, while he’s in town for the month.

FoF

Yoga teacher and single mother, Chrissie Burns has a plan: move into the rundown beach house left to her by her deceased aunt, renovate it, sell it, and move on. The scene of a terrible accident years ago, the house needs to get out of Chrissie’s hands as soon as possible.

But Tarrin’s Bay, where the house stands, has more to offer than bad memories. The town is lovely, the people friendly, and even Chrissie’s young son finds friends and begins coming out of his shell. Employed at Serendipity Retreat as a yoga instructor, Chrissie is shocked to be given the role of private teacher to Drew Williams, Australia’s top singer/songwriter for the month.

Relationships between instructors and clients are strictly forbidden, but Drew draws happiness out of Chrissie with his down-to-earth nature and sense of humour. Days of stretching and bending may bring Chrissie unexpected peace and strength, but she knows that this interlude must end, and there’s no pose or position to aid her if Drew walks away and leaves her broken-hearted.

This book is part of my Tarrin’s Bay series which has books for each month of the year and is now up to ‘May’, and has guaranteed happy endings and new beginnings! You can start with The January Wish, or whichever story you feel most drawn to as they can also be read as stand-alone stories.

AND for the next week you will have the chance to WIN a copy of FEBRUARY OR FOREVER in print as part of the MORE TIME FOR THE BEACH anthology of 3-in-1 bestsellers! Included in this prize pack is a beautiful scented ‘coastal hideaway’ candle in a tin. Best of all, the contest is OPEN WORLDWIDE, despite shocking postage costs from Australia! 😛 I love hosting giveaways and I value my international readers as well as my Australian ones, so when I can I like to include some international giveaways too.

To enter this giveaway, please visit my Facebook page and find the GIVEAWAY post dated February 8th. I will draw the winner the day after Valentine’s day, on Thurs 15th.

The Magic of Tarrin’s Bay…

Today I’m sharing an interview I did about my Tarrin’s Bay series, in which I discuss writing about difficult topics, whether my characters are based on real people, and why Tarrin’s Bay is such a magical place for people to start a new beginning.

You can read the interview HERE.

You can also read Suze’s review of my latest Tarrin’s Bay novel MIRACLE IN MARCH, here’s a snippet… “I think the way Juliet Madison describes Jackson’s autism is really beautiful. The same can be said about how she handles other difficult topics in the story. She writes about them with such care and compassion and the feelings she describes are spot-on.” Read more HERE.

And if you haven’t yet started reading the bestselling Tarrin’s Bay series, you can read the currently available three books in any order, but if you prefer to follow in sequence, here are the links:

  • THE JANUARY WISH* ~ a sweet, emotional contemporary romance about the pleasures of making a wish and seeing it come true.
  • FEBRUARY OR FOREVER ~ What if your favourite celebrity fell in love with you?
  • MIRACLE IN MARCH ~ She took a break from real life, and found what she didn’t know she was looking for.

*The January Wish is also available in paperback as part of the 3-in-1 anthology TIME FOR THE BEACH.

Happy reading, and I hope you have a magical day! 🙂

Cover Reveal, & Tarrin’s Bay Gift Pack to WIN!

The cover fairies at Harlequin Australia have done their magic again, this time with the third book in my Tarrin’s Bay series, MIRACLE IN MARCH. What do you think?

MiracleInMarchV2-Harlequin1920_1920x3022

Here is the blurb for this story, due for release March 8th 2015.

A new Tarrin’s Bay novel from best-selling author Juliet Madison. She took a break from real life,  and found what she didn’t know she was looking for.

Emma had plans, travel plans, going-far-away plans, but her family means everything to her, so when they needed help, she was there to deliver it. Running the family business of beachside cabins in Tarrin’s Bay might not be the same as the French Riviera, but Emma finds a certain level of peace in the beautiful setting and small town community.

But when she finds that her ex-boyfriend, a man she left behind without explanation, staying in one of the cabins, her peace is ruined. She knows the only way to get it back is to share the secret she’s been hiding for five years, and admit to him the limitations that she now carries. But James has his own truths to share, and he’s not the man that Emma once knew.

They are both in very different places than before, but it’s a time for renewal and second chances when their reunion brings secrets to the surface, dreams to be remembered, and the realisation that they are both in need of a little miracle.

So now that the March book is gearing up for release, I guess I better start planning the April book! Luckily, the characters and story are already taking shape in my mind. All I’ll tell you for now is that the hero and heroine will be next door neighbours. One is a social butterfly, the other is a bit of a hermit. One has a physical disability, the other has emotional scars. But despite their clashing personalities they may just find something amazing that bonds them together. There will be a candle shop, feuding pet cats, and tattoos. Which means skin. And muscles. 😉 And of course, as with all my small town stories, there will be secrets. And this will be the first TB book in which neither of the characters are parents. More later!

Giveaway time!

FoFThis book is the second in my linked Tarrin’s Bay series, but is a complete stand alone so you don’t need to have read the first book, The January Wish, beforehand (though you can if you choose!).

FEBRUARY OR FOREVER is set in a small Australian coastal country town and has romance, friendship, family dramas, and secrets, and revolves around the premise – what if your favourite celebrity fell in love with you? Think about your favourite singer, actor, or celebrity, or your fave from long ago… can you imagine what it would feel like if you met them and romance blossomed? That was what I tried to capture in this story. Chrissie is a hardworking single mother with a challenging six year old son, and has loved Drew Williams’ music (and um, his ‘personality’) for eighteen years, ever since he won a television talent show and shot to international stardom. Now he’s back in The Bay where he grew up, with plans to escape his busy life for just one month. But can one month become forever when he and his private yoga teacher Chrissie fall in love?

Discover the beautiful and enticing Tarrin’s Bay… join Chrissie and Drew at Serendipity beachside health retreat, the enchanting rural property of Honeydew House, the quaint Miracle Park, and the secluded part of the beach on a starry moonlit night…

Here’s what people are saying about FEBRUARY OR FOREVER:

  • “Brilliant! … February or Forever is a fun, heartwarming story that will stay with me for a long time to come. It left me smiling at my eReader, making “woop” sounds all the way through and of course, made me cry. It’s a modern day fairy tale about a girl meeting her celebrity crush.. except that it’s nothing like that. And it’s why I loved this book so much.” ~ Maryline VP
  • “This book brought out all of my emotions from laughing to crying. Highly recommend read.” ~ Sbart61
  • “I totally loved this book! … Honestly, I’m not the one to drool over fictional heroes, but man..Drew really won my heart. He’s gorgeous, successful, yet such a friendly, kind, family guy. It was really nice to read about a normal celebrity for a change.” ~ Ananda

And here’s a little snippet from the book:

Motherhood had taught Chrissie to be a great multi-tasker. She could cook dinner, answer Kai’s ridiculously difficult questions about outer space, and do her one hundred bi-weekly calf raises while writing the next day’s shopping list. ‘Good, that’s better,’ she said, taking her hands off Drew and letting him sustain the pose. ‘I don’t want to see any more of those spaghetti arms.’

‘You going all Dirty Dancing on me?’

‘Whatever works.’

Drew’s posture loosened slightly as he chuckled. ‘Just don’t put me in the corner if I do things wrong.’

Chrissie laughed. ‘Don’t worry, nobody puts Drew in the corner.’

Drew eased out of the pose and turned to face her. ‘My puns are rubbing off on you.’

‘If only it was your singing ability.’

A smile formed on his lips.

‘How do you know Dirty Dancing so well, anyway? I thought it was a chick flick.’

‘I’ve seen it. I have a good memory.’ He shrugged. ‘And anyway, Sarah was obsessed with it as a young teenager, she had it on VHS and watched it over and over again on the only television set in the house. The script and songs are ingrained into my subconscious memory.’

Chrissie found herself swaying playfully side to side. ‘Are you a good dancer?’

He held his arms out to the side. ‘Am I a good dancer?’ he asked confidently as though he was Johnny Castle himself. ‘I’ll let you be the judge of that.’ He waltzed over to her in a sexy swagger and grabbed her, tipping her torso backwards.

‘Whoa!’ Chrissie straightened up. ‘Wasn’t expecting that.’

‘Expect the unexpected,’ Drew said dramatically, placing one hand on her waist and the other on her hand, in dance position. He stepped forwards and she moved with him, he turned and changed direction and she followed, trusting his lead, until she stepped on his foot.

‘Ouch! Lucky you weren’t in heels.’

‘If I was in heels I would have fallen over back there.’ She pointed to the direction they’d come from. ‘How those ballroom dancers do it I have no idea.’ She broke away from his grasp. ‘Anyway, this isn’t exactly yoga now is it? You, Mister, should behave.’ She jabbed her finger towards his chest.

‘You were the one who asked if I could dance. And besides, what’s wrong with mixing up the classes a little?’

‘So you want to…dance with me?’

‘Why not?’ He shot her a cheeky grin.

She matched it with one of her own. ‘Then there’s only one thing that’s missing.’ She walked over to the corner table and plucked her phone from her bag. She went to scroll through the iPod playlists but opted for YouTube instead. When she found what she was looking for she placed her iPhone in the speaker dock on the table, pressed play, then turned to look at Drew.

His face lit up in recognition when the music began. The unmistakeable song, The Time of my Life, filled the room, its slow, breezy start encouraging her to saunter across the room towards him. Drew eyed her with anticipation, curling his finger to entice her closer, then her body was against his, captivated by a playful eagerness in his eyes.

2 Days To Go! FEBRUARY OR FOREVER teaser…

Here’s a quote pic from February or Forever to tide you over (pardon the pun) until release day! And below, a brief excerpt as well…

Kissquote-FoF

Excerpt:

Chrissie followed his lead and lay back too, hypnotised by the sparkling dots in the sky.

‘I think for tonight I’m going to believe that those stars really are guardian angels and not just lumps of gas,’ Drew said.

‘Me too. I like your hypothesis much more.’ Chrissie imagined each star as a caring soul whose purpose was to guide and protect her. ‘Isn’t it funny how you can actually get a star named after you?’

‘Ha! I’ve got one.’

She turned to face him. ‘Really? There’s a Drew Williams up there?’ Her grin grew along with his.

‘Sure is. It was given to me as a gift. Hey, I should get one for you!’

‘Oh,’ she giggled, ‘I don’t need one. No need to go to all the trouble.’

‘But then you could join me and my mates up there.’

‘Mates?’

‘Yeah.’ He released his hands from behind his head and pointed to the sky. ‘See, that one there is Bob, that’s Dazza, and that’s Pete.’

A laugh bubbled out from Chrissie, and as Drew lowered his arm by his side it brushed against hers, sending tingles of bliss along her skin. His arm flinched ever so slightly, as though he’d felt it too, and for a moment they didn’t speak, just gazed at the stars and breathed in the salty air as the waves whooshed onto the nearby shore.

There’d be no need for a jacket or cardi tonight; heat ran along her arm from Drew’s skin to hers, spreading throughout her body and heightening her senses. Drew’s hand moved a little, and breath caught in Chrissie’s throat as his pinky finger hooked onto hers. She would have continued focusing on the stars and enjoying the sensation of his skin against hers, had it not been for the unmistakeable feeling that he had turned his head and was now looking right at her.

Slowly, Chrissie’s gaze left the stars above and turned to the one lying next to her.

And now, for my Australia Day post:

AUSTRALIAN FICTION – My Top Picks

I love the diversity of Australian fiction, and I find I’m reading more and more books by Australian authors these days, partly because many of the authors have become my friends, and partly because I relate to the Aussie voice, sense of humour, and landscape.

Whether it’s rural, coastal, or urban, it doesn’t matter – I like all kinds of Australian settings. Though I am particularly drawn to small town settings because I love the community atmosphere and close-knit relationships between characters. And that’s why I’m writing my own small town series, the Tarrin’s Bay series, to explore the many stories and characters that can be present in small towns, and bring them to life. The first book in this series, The January Wish, has just been released, and the second book (though they can be read in any order), February or Forever, is out on 1st February (but as mentioned, you could win an early copy!).

Today I thought I’d give some of my fellow authors a plug and share a few Australian books I’ve enjoyed, both recently, and in the last few years. These books are all by Australian authors, and are set in Australia.

> Rural Top Pick: JILTED by Rachael Johns

Jilted bookpage– Three words to describe it: emotional, honest, fulfilling

She left him at the altar, but her heart was always his…

After more than ten years away, Australian soap star Ellie Hughes returns to the small country town of Hope Junction, determined to remain anonymous while caring for her injured godmother, Matilda.

But word spreads fast in the tight-knit community. It isn’t long before the people of Hope’s are gossiping about the real reason for Ellie’s visit and why she broke the heart of golden boy Flynn Quartermaine all those years ago.

Soon Ellie and Flynn are thrown back together again, forced to deal with the unresolved emotions between them. For Ellie is not the only one with secrets. Flynn has his own demons to battle, and Matilda is hiding something from her much-loved goddaughter.

When all is uncovered, can the ill-fated lovers overcome the wounds of their past? Or is Flynn destined to be jilted again?

> Small Town Top Pick: HOUSE FOR ALL SEASONS by Jenn J McLeod

HFAS-– Three words to describe it: clever, intriguing, original

Four women. Four lives unravelled. The truth will bind them forever.

Bequeathed a century-old house, four estranged friends return to their hometown, Calingarry Crossing, where each must stay for a season at the Dandelion House to fulfil the wishes of their benefactor, Gypsy.

But coming home to the country stirs shameful memories of the past, including the tragic end-of-school muck up day accident twenty years earlier.

Sara, a breast cancer survivor afraid to fall in love;

Poppy, a tough, ambitions journo still craving her father’s approval;

Amber, a spoilt socialite addicted to painkillers and cosmetic procedures;

Caitlin, a doctor frustrated by a controlling family and her flat-lining life.

At the Dandelion House, the women will discover something about themselves and a secret that ties all four to each other and to the house – forever.

Small towns can keep big secrets…

> Romantic Suspense Top Pick: WINGS OF FEAR by Helene Young

Wings-of-Fear-Front-Cover1-184x300– Three words to describe it: riveting, well-written, intelligent

High above the crystal-blue waters of North Queensland, Captain Morgan Pentland patrols the vast Australian coastline. When Customs Agent Rafe Daniels joins her crew, she is immediately suspicious. Why is he boarding her plane when she isn’t there? And why is he asking so many questions?

What Morgan doesn’t know is that Rafe has her under surveillance. Critical information about their Border Watch operations is being leaked and she is the main suspect.

Morgan’s ex, elite police officer Carl Wiseman, is back on the scene after she finally found the courage to throw him out. Is he trying to regain Morgan’s affections of are his intentions more sinister?

When Morgan and Rafe are shot down in a tragic midair attack, they realise they have to start working together – and quickly. One of Australia’s most loved icons is the next target and they have only nine days to stop it.

Will they uncover details of the plot in time, or will the tension that is growing between them jeopardise everything?

> Thriller/Crime Top Pick: BEYOND FEAR by Jaye Ford

coverLeft– Three words to describe it: unputdownable, scary, cinematic

Imagine if your worst fears came true. . . Again.

At seventeen, Jodie Cramer survived a terrifying assault at the hands of three strangers. Her schoolmate Angie was not so lucky…

Now thirty-five, Jodie is a teacher and mother of two – and her past is a horror she’s buried deep. When she sets out for a weekend in the country with three friends, all she has in mind is a few laughs and a break from routine.

However, unknown to the four women, their secluded cabin was once the focus of a police investigation and, like Jodie, it nurtures a dark secret. As her friends relax, the isolation reawakens Jodie’s terrifying memories. When she finds evidence of trespassers, she is convinced they are being watched.

But no one will believe her and as her past threatens to overwhelm her, she begins to doubt herself – and her sanity. Until two men knock at their door …

> Coastal Romance Top Pick: NOBODY BUT HIM by Victoria Purman

19292– Three words to describe it: sexy, beachy, satisfying

She didn’t expect to run into her first love… or to fall back in love with him!

At eighteen, Julia Jones left for the city with a head full of grand plans for an exciting life that certainly didn’t include her home town of Middle Point – a main street with a pub – or Ryan Blackburn.

But fifteen years – and a lifetime later – she’s forced to put her big city life on hold when she heads home to finalise her mother’s estate. Which is where she runs smack bang into the town’s new champion… the same Ryan Blackburn. The sensible thing to do? Stay the hell away from him and head back to Melbourne as fast as her stilettos can carry her. But Julia finds his offer of a helping hand and a hot body too delicious to refuse and dives into a reckless, one-time fling. What she doesn’t realise is that tomorrow has a way of sneaking up, and that saying goodbye to her home town – and to Ryan – is much harder the second time around.

> Romantic Comedy Top Pick: HINDSIGHT by Sarah Belle

9689– Three words to describe it: funny, heartwarming, magical

Humour, wit, and just a touch of humility: the swinging 60s as you’ve never seen them before.

The universe has sent Juliette a sign. She wishes it had been an email instead…

Juliette’s career is on fire, her marriage and family are in melt-down, and a red-hot goddess wants her husband. But those are the least of her worries when she wakes up on her lounge room floor in the year 1961.

Without any of her modern conveniences — nanny, housekeeper, surgically attached mobile phone, designer wardrobe, and intravenous lattes — Juliette is just over fifty years out of her comfort zone. But as she takes on the role of a 1961 housewife, with gritted liberated teeth, she discovers an unexpected truth: slower doesn’t mean boring, at home doesn’t mean dull, and priorities don’t mean sacrifices.

As she finds unexpected friendships, a resuscitated love life, tragedy and triumph, Juliette begins to wonder if she really wants to return home after all.

> Women’s Fiction Top Pick: THE HUSBAND’S SECRET by Liane Moriarty

Husband'sSecret_Aus– Three words to describe it: honest, interesting, compelling

A funny, heartbreaking novel of marriage, grief, love and secrets.

When her husband announces he’s in love with her best friend, painfully shy Tess picks up her young son and returns to her mother’s house. There she begins an unexpected affair with an old flame.

Rachel is a woman in her sixties consumed by grief and anger at the loss of her daughter twenty years earlier. When her son announces he is taking her beloved grandson overseas, Rachel begins a descent into deeper bitterness and pain.

Cecilia is the quintessential “I don’t know how she does it” woman. A devoted mother to three daughters, she runs her household like clockwork, is President of the P&C, owns an extremely successful Tupperware business and is happy in her fifteen-year marriage. Good luck… I’ll leave you with a brief blurb for the first two books in my Tarrin’s Bay series:

TheJanuaryWishcoverTHE JANUARY WISH: When Dr Sylvia Greene makes an impromptu wish at the Tarrin’s Bay Wishing Festival, it’s the most out of character action she can think of. Hers is not a life of wishes. Hers is a controlled life of order, plans and preparation…of science and research and diagnosis and treatment. But her past has been weighing on her mind, and decisions made long ago have far-reaching consequences.

A week later, the daughter she secretly gave up for adoption at sixteen arrives in Sylvia’s small coastal town with secrets that can’t be shared. Between feelings of guilt, gossip, and a growing attraction to an emotionally unavailable colleague, Sylvia’s well-ordered life is soon thrown into chaos. She is no longer alone, and for the first time she feels as if her world is open to possibilities.

They say be careful what you wish for, but, for Sylvia, the unexpected consequences may be just what the doctor ordered.

FoFFEBRUARY OR FOREVERYoga teacher and single mother, Chrissie Burns has a plan: move into the rundown beach house left to her by her deceased aunt, renovate it, sell it, and move on.

Days of stretching and bending may bring Chrissie unexpected peace and strength, but she knows that this interlude must end, and there’s no pose or position to aid her when Drew walks away and leaves her broken-hearted.

My First Book Trailer: February or Forever

In February I’ll have five books out in total and thought it was about time I made a book trailer for at least one of them! So I chose to create one for my upcoming release, February or Forever (1st Feb 2014 from Escape Publishing).

You can view the video here or on YouTube, and don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you get notified of my future book trailers.

COVER REVEAL! February or Forever

FoFTa-da! The cover fairies have been at it again! FEBRUARY OR FOREVER will be released on 1st Feb 2014. And you can add it to Goodreads HERE.

This is the second book in my new Tarrin’s Bay series, perfect for those who like romance and women’s fiction set in small towns, especially towns by the beach. February or Forever is one of my faves, and with this and all books in this series I guarantee you a beautiful setting, true to life characters facing compelling issues, gotta-be-together romance, family drama, and friendship. Overall; rich, heartwarming stories with a happy, uplifting ending.

I just love the colours in this cover, and the image is perfect for the story – you will see in the ending of the book why it is so right!
